Fear Factor

(Another "lovely" morning surprise. lol :) )

So if any of you have watched fear factor you know the crazy stunts and creatures the contestants have to deal with. Well, my morning was just that.

Ha I wake up this morning and run downstairs to make some breakfast. Prep-ing some eggs for a scramble, I throw away the shells and see the most awful site. MAGGOTS!! All over the floor, surrounding the trashcan. 50 of them at least. Squirming, crawling, and in every crevice imaginable.

I spent the morning sweeping them up, picking them up, squishing them. Yuck. Yet in a way I was fascinated. Such simple creatures, with a basic function in life; doing what they are programmed to do just like me.

Ha I just couldn't believe the amount of them. They came from everywhere too. They had squirmed to the various regions of the kitchen, and I continued to find them through out the day.

Ha what more is in store for me? :)
Ha since I handled that, does that qualify me for Fear Factor's $1,000,000 prize money?
We'll see..

Coffee Complication

Prepare for a bedtime story cause this is detailed. Where to start....

COFFEE COMPLICATION (a few weeks ago)
So my day started in the break room with my coworker and other intern Patricia. I was in the mood for decaf coffee and a little whole milk. I pour a small cup full from the large canister and Patrica gets a few ounces before it sputters empty. She turns to the Regular canister, but it was empty.

We prep everything and sit in-front of the brewer. ..."Why is it flashing like that?"

We push the brew button, but nothing happens. ...so we push it again. And again. Then the on/off button. The half-brew button. The full brew button. Again the on/off button. Seriously, nothing is happening.

By this time the tech guys come in. (Who better to have around when you have a malfunctioning piece of equipment right?). They do some button mashing as well... then reach for the back cord to un-plug and plug the machine in. (Seriously it's always the stupidest, most obvious thing to do that solves the problem :P)

"Yes! Hey! Look, I think that did it." The light we want comes on and we hear the machine brewing.

Good sign. So we take our leave and wait for the water to heat up.
A few minutes later I come back, to find no one had started it. "Huh, probably ready by now."  I hit brew and watch it go.

I stand there watching it as I fill up my cup of water. It's looking good and working just fine...till it reaches the fill line and the machine isn't stopping.

"Uh-oh!"

I quickly grab a cup and place it under the spout as coffee begins spilling in. I shut off the machine, yet there's a steady stream still coming from the brewer ("Frick. This is the curse of button mashing").

It doesn't look like it's stopping and the 24oz cup is almost full. The machine is still off. ("SERIOUSLY?!?!"). I'm scavenging my brain for the cleanest way to handle this situation. The best option I can think of is an Indian Jones style switch with the empty decaf canister. (Still gonna be messy, but it's the largest container around and my best bet).

With a bead of seat on my forehead, I fumble the containers, but make the switch. I sigh with relief and wait a few more minutes as the stream finally slows down.

It was an unexpected situation. I managed the switch though, and captured most of the drained coffee, so I feel pretty accomplished. :)

Then I look into the Decaf container... just when I thought there wouldn't be any more surprises, I was proven wrong. I see the most unsettling thing...Mold.  A large film of mold floating thickly on top the freshly brewed coffee. (WHAT?! Really?!?! Mold. Of all things!)

My faces cringes as I think back to the half drunken coffee back at my desk (ha great... :S) It was most unsettling. I immediately told Patricia and saved her from any illness. Luckily, I wasn't affected either.

Ha it was a crazy morning, but things turned out OK. Hahaha I had quite the laugh about it. lol I just love the surprises life throws at you.
:)

Hope you handle life's surprises with the same poise and humor. :)

LAKE HOUSE!

Three weeks left of my internship then I'm off to Spain. My Visa just came yesterday, and now it's time to celebrate. What better way than relaxing at the lake?

This weekend I'm off to Lake Travis for a friend's Birthday weekend. Sports, swimming, fun and games. What more could a girl want? :)

Making final arrangements for my travels and excited for my next adventures.

Miss you all! Hope everyone's having fun though and enjoying the weather. :)

Cheers,
Lyndsay
Beating the heat

When the heat is here, the best way to cool off is head to Barton Springs. Located at Zilker Park, It's $3 for the day or free before 9 am and after 9pm. It's a man made pool about 200 metes long and 30 feet wide, no deeper than 5ft but colder than the arctic ocean. ...OK not really but 70 degrees still makes the teeth chatter.

This past week I took a late night dive and returned for a relaxing Friday morning swim. Nothing felt so nice. Barton Springs is a fun place to chill out. It's typical to dip in, then warm up on the hill. If you are ever in Austin, Barton Springs is a must.

MOVIES MOVIES MOVES

Half of what I've done is catch up on the new flicks. Here's what I've seen & my ratings.

Watch in theaters!! IMAX if you can. While it's not the best of them, it completes the trilogy nicely. It's well executed and  adrenaline pumping. Joesph Gordon-Levitt and Anne Hathaway are great additions to the cast. Is there a fourth to come ;) we'll see...
Not as funny as the original with Arnold Schwarzenegger,
but a action packed movie, with pretty faces and
an end that matters you ponder. You choose: is it real or is it Rekall?
Rent this one and watch it at home.

Ice Age does it again with adorable comedy and heartfelt story.
You'll recognize the voices of this star studded cast.
A cute movie for the kids.
Marky marky and Melissa make a dynamic duo, but
this adult children story is for the crude humor loves.
Family Guy fans, will like it. The plot is a more
heart felt and story like than I expected, but
the drugs and sex jokes offset that to appeal to the Family Guy fans.
Drug, sex, and violence, with a little bit of humor.
If you can be satisfied with an OK plot and
the first sentence intrigued you, then you may
like this movie. It's not worth seeing in
theaters though. Red box it.
